Denon enters headphone market

March 7, 2007

Denon, the manufacturer of high-quality receivers entered in to Hi-Fi headset market. Knowing that headset market is already crowded, Denon is confident to boost its presence in Portable audio/video domain. I personally, think, still there is room for Hi-Fi headsets, in this growing market of iPods, portable gaming consoles and other jukeboxes.
Denon introduced the new line of products from February of 2007.The AH line, which ranges from the $700 AH-D5000 to the iPod-friendly $50 AH-C350 earbuds, has some interesting design advances.
The most expensive model, the D5000, is made of real Mahogany housing, Micro-fiber diaphragm and has a Gold plated aluminum connector. Mahogany is a very popular material for drum making, because of its great integrity and capability to produce a very dark, warm tone compared to other more common wood types like maple or birch. The famous Beatles sound of the 60s was made with Ludwig Drums in mahogany shells. The actual justification of the cost depends eventually on how it sounds.
Two other models in the line, the D2000 ($350) and D1000 ($150), include audio-improvement circuitry and gold-plated plugs. The D5000 and D2000 have magnesium frames, making them considerably lighter than many over-the-ear headphones.
On the lower end of the spectrum are the AH-C700 ($200) and AH-C350 ($50) earbuds. The C700 is made of aluminum while the C350 is plastic. Both include foam in-ear buds and an anti-tangle cable.
These headsets are available for ordering at Amazon.com and ship later this month.
