CDX-GT686UI has iPod connectivity via iPod Dock to USB cable. Many iPod user will be having this cable. Incase, you don’t have it, Sony recommends "iPod 1-Wire Direct Cable" (Part number: RC 100IP, priced Rs. 1350/-)

Passenger control: When iPod is connected to head unit, you can operate on the iPod directly (except for few iPod models). Remember that the volume can be adjusted only by the head unit and When you cancel the Passenger control mode, the repeat settings will be turned off.
